An important message for friends and family of Abbeyfield Newcastle
Hello fellow Abbeyfield Newcastle friends,
Given the increasing numbers of Covid19 (coronavirus) cases around the country we are taking comprehensive steps to ensure we keep our residents and staff safe at this difficult time. Indeed, you will have probably seen the coverage on the news every day and the update given by the Prime Minister on Monday, and the impact this is having on events across the country.
Currently we have no confirmed cases amongst any of our staff teams or our residents. However, we are not going to be complacent and we must therefore be well prepared to respond to this Public Health challenge and make important decisions that ensure the health and wellbeing of everyone.
Our duty is first and foremost is to keep all residents and staff safe, and to protect them as much as we can. In order to do this, we feel the best way, is to restrict who is able to come into each of our homes with immediate effect, and until further notice.
We are informing you that we have taken the unprecedented precautionary measure to restrict access to both Abbeyfield sites until further notice. This means that family and friends are not allowed to visit their family member until the restriction is lifted.
We will always make sure that you can maintain contact with your loved one throughout this period using social media technology or by phone; and you can of course contact us if you are concerned about their health.
Why is this happening:
You will be aware things are progressing quickly in society in general with many events being cancelled; indeed, the latest government guidance is that we are entering the next phase in the UK’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak. Part of this response is to ensure the elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions should self-isolate and social distance themselves wherever possible.
Our duty of care is to make sure our residents and staff are safe and protected as much as we can, and that is why as a precautionary measure we are restricting you visiting your loved one as of today.
These measures are being taken purely as a precaution, and we hope you understand why we are doing this. All services your loved one receives from Abbeyfield (care, food, medication, some activities, etc.) will continue as they do now, these are not affected by this temporary restriction.
Our contingency plans and how we will respond to this outbreak are based upon the latest advice from the national and devolved Governments and Public Health bodies. We are continually monitoring and reviewing the latest information as they publish it and we will further review our plans to incorporate any further changes that are required.
