At Abbeyfield Newcastle, we are very proud to offer our residents the opportunity to remain connected to the wider community in Gosforth and beyond. We feel that this is a major contributor to our residents’ happiness and provides them an important sense of inclusion in later life.
We regularly arrange interaction at both of our Care Homes from members of the community to enrich the lives of our residents. At Christmas, the Newcastle School for Boys’ Choir entertained residents and staff with beautiful renditions of traditional carols. An invaluable addition to the experience was the boys chatting with the residents after their performance.
During the summer at the Grove Garden Party, a local dance troupe performed for the residents. Resident feedback was extremely positive and the energy and joy displayed through dance was clearly felt by all of us in the audience.
Through activities such as these, we continue to provide our residents with the environment to find happiness and community and dispel the belief that loneliness is inevitable in later life.
